- AUTOMATION MODULE
At first, fully automatic filter presses differ significantly from conventional filter presses. The basic architecture, the working principle, and process technology are identical. Fully automatic filter presses are specifically designed for applications in which continuous operation and fast cycle times are essential and therefore crucial. N.M Patel’s fully automatic filter presses provide a high degree of automation while providing uninterrupted operation at the same time. The option of the simultaneous filter plate opening system, for example, helps to realize a particularly fast cake release reducing the cycle time to a minimum. The result is a high-speed filter press that allows increased production per unit area of the filter. For this reason, these machines are used in applications with highly filterable products where high filtration speeds are required.
N.M Patel also has several systems/plants for fully automated filter presses. This means that we have the right solution for all applications. All systems are self-monitoring and can be parametrized by the operator and optimized accordingly. These include, e.g. the vibration device with eccentric beams and a simultaneous filter plate opening system, the vibrating device for individual filter plates, and the spreader clamp/spreader cloth version. The Cloth Washing system, The operating time of a fully automatic filter press is 24/7. Although a daily check of the filter press is necessary. This only involves personnel costs of about 2 hours per day which is well below the value of a manually operated filter press.

Plate Shifter
The purpose of the automatic plate shifter is to move the filter plates (patented sectional emptying), whether they are moved individually or assembled together as a package in order to empty the filter press. Experience has shown that this is done manually on smaller filter presses. With larger plate formats, however, plate shifting is more difficult and requires a plate transport system. The plate shifter is attached to both side rails, which move the filter plates synchronously by means of toothed belts. The system functions hydraulically and is controlled via the PLC control in the control cabinet.
For maximum protection, all functional components are mounted in a closed housing, the plate shifting carriage. For safety reasons, the automated plate movement is protected by a light barrier. When reaching into the danger area, the press switches off in accordance with legal requirements.

Plate Automated Drip TraY
The drip tray is the automated further development of the simplified, manual drip tray. It consists of two drip tray supports that perform an automatic ramp-up movement when the filter press is emptied so that the filter cake can drop downwards. After the emptying process, the swivel drip tray closes again and any dripping water that may be produced passes over the tray supports into the filtrate channel again. The entire system, like all other functions, is driven by a hydraulic unit. The system is operated automatically by the press control system. If necessary, the operator switches to manual operation. The drip tray supports are primarily made of PP or stainless steel.
- BENEFITS OF AN AUTOMATED DRIP TRAY:
• Opening and closing during emptying takes place automatically, saving time and personnel costs
• The opened swivel plate takes over a funnel function for the filter cake so that the sloping filter cake is specifically directed downwards. - It is based on a roller under Filter Press. To collect the cake and be easily moved to cake dumping site.
Filter Cloth Washing Device for Filter Press
The industry-leading filter cloth washing system from N.M Patel is a device that uses PLC logic controls to ensure fully automatic cleaning of filter cloths without operator intervention. The cleaning is done using water that is sprayed on the surface of the filter cloths at high pressure. The washing trolley is a frame construction that moves on track rollers and guide rails and is coupled to the automatic plate shifter. It is also available with Model X.
The automatic plate shifting first pulls the filter plate into its position. The washing device then positions itself in relation to the filter plate. The swivelling nozzle holder then moves along the filter plate and cleans it via the water jet which flows out of the arranged nozzles. The system works completely automatically and also prevents excessive contamination of the filter cloths. This is particularly important in the edge or sealing area of the filter cloths.
Contaminated filter cloths are the cause of many problems when operating a filter press (e.g. a chamber filter press and a membrane filter press) and lead to:
• Long filtration times with moderately good results
• Destruction of the filter cloths as a result of high flow loads
• Unplanned shutdown of the plant
• Damage to the press design as a result of differential pressures
Vibrating Systems
VIBRATING DEVICE A
In this version, the filter plates are connected to each other by an interlocking system. The opening of all filter plates thus takes place in one operation, by retracting the pressure plate. The plate arms of the filter plates are located on eccentric bars which hydraulically rotate on the longitudinal axis and which are shaken by the rotation of the filter plates. This process causes the filter cake to separate from the filter cloth and fall off. The filter presses with the vibrating device type I work with extremely short idle times and are mainly used in the mining sector.
VIBRATING DEVICE +X
The vibrating device II is used for the fully automatic emptying of filter presses and is a consistent further development of the N.M Patel plate shifting system, which is known as Model X. The plate shifter in the drive variant with a toothed belt serves as the basis here. Filter presses with the vibrating device II can thus be emptied without operator intervention. In a filter press with this vibrating device, the chambers are emptied individually. For this purpose, the filter plates of the chamber filter press or membrane filter press are laid in the usual way from the closed plate pack to the pressure plate of the filter press. The plate shifting device stops approximately in the middle of the so-called working area, the free space between the still closed plate pack and the plates that have already been laid. At this point, a hydraulic lifting device transmits movement impulses to the filter plate with the adhering filter cake. After only a few strokes, the filter cake is completely detached from the filter cloth.
